The SPIE Photonics Europe international conference was held in Strasbourg in early April. With close to 3,000 participants, 32 sessions and more than 130 companies, it is the second largest European conference in photonics. It was founded in 2004 by Patrick Meyrueis and brought back to Strasbourg by Paul Montgomery (ICube, University of Strasbourg, CNRS) in 2018 after necessary extension work on the Palais des Congrès. It showcases research and innovation in photonics in the Grand Est Region and beyond. Institut Photonique had a booth at the exhibition and had an opportunity to present its strategy for promoting photonics in the Region at the Photonics Market Place. Both founding and affiliate members of the Institute were also able to gather at a networking event at the Hilton Hotel in Strasbourg with our partners from Photonics France and Grand Est Développement International. The event was a great success. The next edition, in two years’ time, will take place from 2 to 6 April 2028 in Strasbourg. Save the date!
SPIE Photonics Europe is a must-attend event for those who want to meet key players in the fields of photonics innovation and research. The 2026 edition, held in Strasbourg, gathered international players in photonics, with whom Institut Photonique could share its ambitions regarding education, scientific outreach, research and innovation, and the strengthening of ties within the photonics sector.
The Institut Photonique network was represented at the industrial exhibition by founding members (University of Strasbourg) and affiliates (Jeulin, Holo3, Opton Laser International, Photonics Bretagne), whilst more than 120 researchers and PhD students affiliated with Institut Photonique attended the conference.
As a side event, Institut Photonique co-organised an exclusive networking event with Photonics France and Grand Est Développement International. This came as a unique opportunity to meet and exchange with partners of the French photonics ecosystem, and to explore the partnership and development opportunities in Eastern France.
