Focus on International Day of Light

On 19 May, as part of the International Day of Light, CentraleSupélec had the pleasure to visit the Gustave Eiffel high school in Talange to interact with the students on the themes of photonics, optics and light technologies.

That day provided an opportunity to present various experiments and demonstrations involving lasers, light propagation, optical fibers, optics and modern applications of photonics in the fields of health, telecommunication, imaging and AI.

A heart-felt thank you to the Gustave Eiffel high school for hosting the speakers, and to the students and teachers for their curiosity, their many questions and their enthusiasm throughout the day.

In the evening, as part of both the International Day of Light and the Pint of Science festival, speakers from CentraleSupélec engaged with a different audience, in a friendly and easy-going atmosphere. Thank you to the Pint of Science team in Metz for organising this outstanding event which each year brings scientific research closer to the public in a simple, lively and interactive way.

Warm thanks also to all the people who attended the event and asked many interesting questions throughout the evening.

23 May was also a day dedicated to science, discovery and light. The University of Technology of Troyes was hosted by the Cité du Vitrail for an afternoon of activities centered on light and colour. Adults and children alike could experiment, manipulate and understand light phenomena through a range of interactive workshops: games involving LEDs, Laser Maze, Light Box, exploring additive and subtractive colours, hologrammes and color spaces.

Promoting scientific and technical awareness, especially among younger generations, remains essential for inspiring career and showing how central light is today to the photonic technologies and AI of tomorrow.

The International Day of Light is a wonderful opportunity to share science in a different way and spark curiosity. See you again in 2027!
